Oil painting from Florida, Home from the Beach
Home from the Beach
2002
20x30 Oil on Canvas
$800.00

There's a wonderful beach just south of Ft. Lauderdale in the town of Dania Beach. It's called John Lloyd State Park. I love it there because it reminds me of the beautiful beaches on the west coast of Florida. Like those beaches — and unlike so many of the urban beaches on the east coast of Florida — John Lloyd's beach is backed by thick stands of tropical foliage. A stream flows through the woods between the parking lot and the beach, and you have to cross one of several charming wood footbridges to reach the sand. This painting depicts a scene familiar to beach–goers everywhere: that hot, late afternoon trudge as you carry your beach bag and cooler home from the beach at the end of a long, lazy day in the sun. Every time I look at this guy crossing the bridge, I can feel that delicious weariness and the sand between my toes, just like I do whenever I take that same walk. This painting was accepted into the Broward Art Guild's Juried “Summer Exhibition, 2002,” and into the City of Sunrise Juried Art Exhibition, “Imagery,” where it won second place in the “Oil” category.
